History of a Catholic religious order of monks.
Let's open a secret about who the Cistercians are. These are representatives of the Catholic religious order of monks formed in the 11th century. Cistercian monks led a reclusive life. Ascetic practices and meditative monastic life played a large role in their spiritual traditions.
During our tour, we will visit the Poblet Monastery. It was founded in 1151 and is still active today. Here we can see how the life of the monks is organized and admire the amazing architecture of the monastery. It contains the protected royal residence and the pantheon of the royal house of Aragon. The vaulted galleries of the courtyards (12th century) and the royal tomb (14th century) are of particular interest. The Poblet Monastery has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Then we will go to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Santes Creus, which is not active at the moment... But this only makes it more mysterious and interesting! We will walk around this holy place and learn from the guide a lot of curious things from the history of Cistercianism.
Then we will go for a walk in the medieval city of Montblanc. Yes, indeed! The one where Sant Jordi saved the princess from the dragon! We will walk through its cozy streets, go into a real Catalan cafe, and we can enjoy the local cuisine!
