Just 50 km from Barcelona there is a very beautiful mountain range, Montserrat, where you can find an ancient Benedictine monastery, this is a spiritual symbol of Catalonia. It was built in the IX century, but still, about 80 monks live here. You will have a sightseeing excursion of the monastery complex, you will find out its origin history and architectural features. Besides, you will visit the Cathedral, where the statue of the Virgin of Montserrat is kept (La Moreneta), this is the main subject of pilgrimage for thousands of tourists. It is believed that it helps people in their problems, fulfills their innermost desires and heals. Here you can hear the famous boys' choir "Escolania", and also see a rich collection of classic and contemporary painting in the gallery of the monastery.
After that, you will have free time to walk, dine and enjoy the beautiful views of the Montserrat toothed mountains. Moreover, there is a market in Montserrat, where you can buy domestic cheese, curd, honey, etc
In addition to the visit of the Montserrat monastery we suggest you visit at choice a famous Codorniu factory, which produces the Catalonian champagne "cava" and was built in the style of modern last century by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner – acquaintance with its history, manufacturing technology, bottling, descent to the cellars and certainly tasting; or visit Bodegas Torres wine-growing company with an overlook of vineyards and cellars, acquaintance with methods of winemaking and a light tasting.
