Excursion to the ancient castles of Quéribus and Peyrepertuse.
The Cathar country - this is what the southern French lands are still called. The castles that we offer you to visit on this fascinating tour are evidence of their former power and grandeur:
Quéribus Castle stands on a cliff, at a level of 728 meters. The first mention of the fortress appeared in 1020. Quéribus stands in a very picturesque area. From the observation platforms, there is a magnificent view of the vineyards and fig groves. In the 13th century, Quéribus and Peyrepertuse were the last stronghold of the Cathars in southern France.
Peyrepertuse Castle is located in the French Pyrenees in the Aude department. The name from Occitan is translated as "permeated rock".
Indeed, the castle seems to penetrate the top through. The walls are right on the cliffs. The citadel consists of an upper and a lower castle, which rise 800 meters above the plain and are connected to each other by a staircase.
Perpignan. The capital of the kingdom of Mallorca, founded by King Jaume I in the 9th century. We will see the Castle of the Kings of Mallorca, the military fort Le Castillet, the Cathedral of St. Juan and the central square with the city hall and the commercial chamber of the 11th century.
